Description
P08 Erfurt “Artillerie” / Lange Pistole 08 (LP08) or “ARI”, one of the most spectacular and sought-after variants of the Luger family. The example in the photograph also includes the detachable wooden shoulder stock, an extremely important element for its collector value. The Lange Pistole 08 (“Artillery Luger”) was officially adopted by the Imperial German Army in 1913. In the First World War the LP08 became famous especially among the Stoßtruppen (assault troops), where it was used almost as a small carbine.
From a collector’s point of view, the piece pictured looks very good. Note the:
genuine patina;
old, partly original finish;
edges still well defined;
very well preserved original wooden stock – the stock matters a great deal, since many LP08s have lost their stocks and many stocks are modern reproductions. An original stock alone can be worth hundreds or even over 1,000 €.
correct LP08 configuration;
coherent overall appearance, not aggressively restored.
It is not a heavy modern commercial reblue.
