FAQ
Frequently asked questions – Shotguns
What do 12/70 and 12/76 mean?
12 is the gauge, while 70 or 76 is the chamber length in millimetres. A gun chambered for 12/76 will also accept 12/70 cartridges, but a gun chambered for 12/70 must not be used with 12/76 cartridges.
What is the difference between an over-and-under and a side-by-side?
On over-and-under guns the barrels are stacked one above the other, giving a single sighting plane. On side-by-side guns the barrels sit next to each other – the classic layout of English and German hunting guns.
What documents do I need for a smoothbore hunting shotgun?
Your identity document, a firearms licence for hunting weapons and a purchase authorisation issued by the police. We will confirm the documents required for the gun you choose.
