Brief history
The SIG Sauer P229 Classic was developed in the early 1990s as a compact, strengthened version of the P226/P228 family, intended mainly for police forces and professional use. The model retains the classic SIG Sauer construction: light-alloy frame, steel slide, DA/SA action, external hammer and a separate lever for safely decocking the hammer.
The 9×19 mm version offers the features and reliability of the P226 in a more compact configuration. SIG Sauer describes the P229 as a pistol originally developed for the requirements of law enforcement agencies and designed to high standards of reliability. sigsauer.com
