Description
Brief history – Smith & Wesson Model 42 no-dash
The Model 42 “Centennial Airweight” is the lightweight version of the Model 40 Centennial, with an aluminium-alloy frame. The design was launched in 1952 to mark the Smith & Wesson centenary, and from 1957 it received the official designation Model 42. The revolver has the compact J-frame, .38 Special calibre, a 5-shot cylinder, a barrel of approximately 2", a fully enclosed hammer, double-action-only operation and the characteristic grip safety on the backstrap. Original production ended in 1974.
The no-dash variant, from the original production run, is rarer than the modern 442/642 models and is of considerable collector interest, especially when it retains its finish, numbered grips and original box.
