Description
Brief history – Smith & Wesson Model 32-1 “Terrier”, 1971
The Smith & Wesson Model 32-1 is the J-frame variant of the compact revolver known by the trade name .38/32 Terrier. The “-1” suffix marks the change, in 1961, from the old I-frame to the slightly sturdier J-frame. This example, dated 1971, belongs to the late period of classic production.
Contrary to the impression given by the model number, the gun is not in .32 calibre but in .38 S&W. It has a 2" barrel, a 5-shot cylinder, a single- and double-action mechanism, fixed sights and a compact “round butt” configuration.
The Model 32-1 is relatively rarely seen in Europe and is of interest to collectors of classic Smith & Wesson revolvers, although demand is more limited than for models chambered in .38 Special.
Indicative market valuation

very good–excellent condition, fully original: 550–700 EUR;
near new, with numbered grips, original box and documents: 750–900 EUR.
A Model 32-1 was recently offered on the US market at around 550 USD, and the general published valuation range for the Model 32 family is approximately 215–620 USD, depending on condition and originality. collectorsfirearms.com
Recommended catalogue price, as the revolver is fully original and in excellent condition: 675 EUR. Grips with matching serial numbers and a finish that has not been reblued push the value towards the upper end of the range.
