UBERTI model COLT CAVALRY SAA AINSWORTH INSPECTED Cal. .45 Colt

The revolver pictured is a top-quality Italian reproduction made by Uberti, based on the famous Colt Single Action Army Cavalry Model 1873 in its “Ainsworth inspected” variant. It is one of the most sought-after western models for collecting and historical re-enactment.
The Colt Single Action Army (“Peacemaker”) was adopted by the US Army in 1873 and became the iconic revolver of the Wild West. The original model was chambered in .45 Colt and equipped the US Cavalry until around the 1890s.
The Ainsworth inspected marking (the OWA cartouche on the walnut grips and the letter A beneath the serial number on the frame) refers to the military inspector Orville W. Ainsworth, who was responsible for the first Colt military revolvers delivered to the US Army in 1873–1874. These guns are of great historical importance, as many were issued to George Armstrong Custer’s 7th Cavalry Regiment before the famous Battle of the Little Bighorn against the Sioux. Original Ainsworth revolvers are among the most valuable military Colt SAAs in existence today.
The Italian company Uberti, founded in 1959, became famous for its extremely faithful reproductions of American western firearms. Many collectors regard Uberti as the premium standard for historical Colt SAA replicas.
The example pictured is a “Cavalry” version with a 7 1/2″ barrel with Bull-eye, blued and colour case-hardened finish, in excellent condition, new and unused, with premium wood grips and a premium appearance.
