HOLLAND & HOLLAND ROYAL HAMMERLESS

Holland & Holland is one of the most prestigious British gunmakers, founded in London in 1835 by Harris Holland. The Royal model is the company’s masterpiece and is regarded as one of the most influential fine-gun designs in the world, having been copied by many elite gunmakers in Italy and Spain. Its detachable-lock action and the self-opening system patented in 1922 established the Royal as the benchmark for luxury guns. The gun we are offering is a Royal Hammerless Ejector, in completely original condition, in calibre 12/70 (2¾”) serial number 23933, barrel address: 13 Bruton Street, London; hand-cut “best scroll” engraving, excellent state of preservation, with very well-preserved blueing and engraving. According to the Holland & Holland production records, serial number 23933 falls within the production period of the early 1920s. Both the metalwork and the wood are in excellent condition, with exceptional wood and a “Best London Gun” standard of finish; the stock was at some point lengthened by a professional gunsmith. The gun shows no signs of rust or heavy use, and the action is perfectly tight. The bores are mirror-bright and the blueing is impeccable.
