Description
The Howa 1500 is a bolt-action rifle made in Japan by Howa Machinery. Launched in the late 1970s, the platform has earned a reputation for robustness, accuracy and excellent value for money. The same action also formed the basis of rifles sold under other brands, including the Weatherby Vanguard. The Howa 1500 action uses a forged steel bolt with two locking lugs, an M16-type extractor and a one-piece receiver with an integral recoil lug. Howa barrels are cold hammer-forged, a process that ensures good consistency and durability.
The rifle shown is fitted in an MDT ORYX chassis, designed for precision shooting at medium and long range. It is a manually operated bolt-action precision rifle built on the Howa 1500 action and fitted with an OD Green MDT ORYX chassis.
Visible features:
Howa 1500 action with manually operated bolt;
heavy free-floating barrel, suited to precision shooting;
MDT ORYX chassis with a 6061-T6 aluminium internal structure;
adjustable outer panels and cheek riser;
buttpad adjustable with spacers;
ergonomic pistol grip;
long forend with accessory mounting options;
detachable magazine, AICS-pattern compatible;
Picatinny rail for mounting optics;
Vortex Viper PST riflescope with tactical turrets;
scope rings.
The ORYX chassis beds the action in a rigid aluminium block and allows the barrel to float fully. This construction reduces stresses between the action and the stock and helps achieve consistent accuracy.
Calibre .308 Winchester
The price is 1,750 €; the rifle is in very good condition and the scope works flawlessly.
