Frequently asked questions – Revolvers
What is the difference between .357 Magnum and .38 Special?
They share the same bullet diameter, but the .357 Magnum cartridge has a longer case and is more powerful. A revolver chambered in .357 Magnum can also fire .38 Special cartridges, but a revolver chambered in .38 Special must not be used with .357 Magnum.
What do single action and double action mean on a revolver?
On a single-action revolver (for example the Colt Single Action Army), the hammer is cocked by hand before each shot. On a double-action revolver, pulling the trigger both cocks and releases the hammer, and most double-action revolvers can also be fired single-action.
Why are Colt Python revolvers so sought after?
The Colt Python, made from 1955, is prized for its high-polish blued finish, finely tuned action and the accuracy of its ventilated-rib barrel. Original examples are among the most sought-after collector’s revolvers.
